Located in picturesque Grays Harbor, Westport Winery is an award-winning wine maker with a flair for the unusual, as a glance at their stunning wine labels will tell you.
Arriving here during my summer 2010 vacation, I was immediately impressed by the company's wine selection. You could just buy one of each bottle and turn them into a kind of liquid art gallery in your home!
Not *all* of the wines were to my taste. Not sure I could ever learn to love Ancient Mariner Pear Wine, for example, though my wife Dolores loved it. Must be a girls-fruit thing. Westport also sells a lot of its Pineapple Express, which thankfully hasn't got much to do with the actual fruit itself.
Many of Westport's wines include a donation for each bottle sold to a local charity. Now that's having your cake and eating it -- or rather, your wine and drinking it!
If you're beginning to suspect that this company's all about gimmicks, guess again. In 2008, Westport Winery's products won three medals in a Dallas-based wine competition.
Yes, it's a little kitschy to give your wines names of fruits and pirate-related stuff, but if you can look past that, enjoy the wines for their flavor and not their silly names, relax and soak in the scenery, as well as the vino, Westport will be a great experience.
You're sure to get a warm welcome here, and find plenty of fun gifts to take home with you.
